Jim Morrison wanted to “take the planet back, reinvent the gods, make new myths.” As father of young children, right now I’m settling for a humbler task of maintaining the myths, childhood fables, the magic, the monsters. There’s a thief character in Disney’s Tangled named Flynn Rider, who’s real name happens to be Eugene Fitzherbert. But my daughter believes his real name is James. Is it Flynn? Eugene? James?  Doesn’t matter, let’s roll with it. So she’s rapidly running her Rapunzel doll down our sofa (which doubles for a mountainside) evading the the King’s Guard (Duplo blocks)  with a brown lunch bag wrapped around the Rapunzel doll. I asked her what the deal was with the paper bag and she said James is the paper bag.  Maybe we are reinventing the gods.
